Q. What is the difference between BPI Certification and RESNET Certification?
A. Both certifications are for Energy Auditors, Building Analysts, and Energy Raters, all of which provide the same basic function of analyzing the home for energy efficiency. BPI has been developing standards since 1983 focused on the retrofit industry and traditionally RESNET focused on the new home industry. Both are recognized in Home Star and other federal initiatives.
Q. Is contractor accreditation a requirement?
A. It depends on the program. In the proposed Home Star legislation if the contractor is accredited they are subject to less quality assurance inspections by a third party.
